NOVUM was a Horizon 2020 project focused on developing cellulose-based materials and an automated manufacturing route for producing complex components using additive manufacturing and downstream processing.
The project connected material development with large-scale fused granular fabrication, post-processing and inspection in a pilot-line architecture aimed at industrial production.
The project forms an important part of Brinter's industrial additive-manufacturing heritage because it demonstrated direct granulate processing of renewable thermoplastic compounds at a larger manufacturing scale.
The same technology lineage can be seen in later work around pellet and granulate processing, sustainable materials and foamed thermoplastic additive manufacturing.
NOVUM extended the manufacturing problem beyond the printing step itself by connecting additive manufacturing with post-processing, inspection and pilot-line automation.
That system-level perspective remains central to BrinterAM's current approach: the manufacturing architecture is designed around the full process and the requirements needed to move from development toward repeatable production.
